Please email theprimerconference@gmail.com as soon as possible so that we can collaborate about how best to provide accessibility for you throughout the PRIMER2020 conference and events.
For people with bodies.
When pivoting from a physical to a virtual conference, we intentionally spread the event out over a week to better allow you
to absorb and participate as the delightfully embodied creature you are. Each day of the virtual conference consists of 2-3 hours of talks (with breaks about every hour) either prefaced or followed by an optional workshop. We hope this scheduling allows all of us to move and care for ourselves as needed. Please take this time to fuel yourself mentally and physically.
Worried about missing out on the content? We’ll be recording as much of virtual PRIMER2020 talks as possible to share via our Vimeo account over the coming weeks and months. During the conference, be sure to take breaks in order to care for yourself. Pull out your headphones, do a few stretches and a few breathing exercises to get your body and mind moving and stimulated.
Blind and Visually Impaired.
Our schedule is available in large print on the PRIMER2020 website as well as via PDF for physical printing/enlargement. Your feedback is incredibly valuable if you have any comments or suggestions.
(Encourage our attendees to download and use the “Be My Eyes” app. The app connects those without impairments via a live video call to “lend their eyesight and support with everyday tasks”)
Dyslexia.
Our detailed schedule will be available before the event to help you plan which sessions you wish to attend. Key information about the conference will be shared and updated in real-time via our PRIMER2020 Slack Channel (to which all conference attendees are invited).
The emcee will provide verbal announcements at the beginning and/or end of sessions regarding these updates.
We are reminding workshop facilitators that not everyone will want to read out loud/share their notes and that this will not be required from any participants.
If you wish to record audio or video during workshops, rather than taking notes, email theprimerconference@gmail.com as soon as possible to determine how we can best provide you accessibility to content.
General Help.
Throughout PRIMER2020, volunteers will be available in the slack channel #P2020_Helpdesk for general help & questions as well as virtual wayfinding and troubleshooting or send a slack direct message to @PRIMERhelp.
(Note: The word ‘virtual’ describing PRIMER2020 does not mean you must be tech-savvy to attend!)
Additionally, PRIMER2020 Staff as well as Design Futures Initiative Board Members and Directors will be clearly identifiable via their virtual profiles. While we don’t have all the answers to all the things, we can certainly connect you to the right team for help.
Other Needs?
PRIMER2020 as a virtual conference is a new format, but making PRIMER and Speculative Design Meetups more accessible is an active, ongoing process. We welcome your suggestions and ideas and would like to learn from your experiences.
