The year 2020, the time horizon for thousands of visions, predictions, and roadmaps, is finally here. Is it what we thought, dreamed, or hoped it would be? The Activating Futures theme for PRIMER2020 is focused on how we can apply speculative practices in order to manifest futures for all.

Futures for All
In 2019, we challenged ourselves to make Futures accessible to all. Now, in a version of 2020 that looks quite different from what anyone had hoped, we focus on taking action on the visions generated through democratized speculative practices.

Civic
Futures
Among humanity’s greatest challenges are inequity, environmental degradation, and community well-being in the context of a highly interconnected global ecosystem. We explore Futures interventions, both urban and rural, that aim to address these issues.
Day 03. Wednesday, June 24
Global Futures
The practice of Futures is gaining new traction across the globe, creating innumerable opportunities for connection and collaboration. We explore how the intersection of different cultures and ecosystems leads to better futures.
Day 04. Thursday, June 25
Inclusive Futures
Prejudice, discrimination, and bias unfortunately still inform many mainstream Futures. We break beyond the extreme limitations of exclusion through a dialogue about the rich speculative imaginings of nonbinary, feminist, and Afrofuturist
design practices.
Day 05. Friday, June 26
Corporate Futures
Corporations, and organizations of every kind, are in dire need of transformation.
We will learn how to demonstrate and communicate the business value of adopting speculative futures practices
so that our work can lead to the
desired impact.
